1936

Orlando Simonelli creates his first espresso coffee machine in Cessapalombo. He names it “1936” after the year it was built. For its time, it was already an innovative and technically advanced device. It’s a 2-group column machine with electric heating and water pressure system from the water mains.

1950

Simonelli produces the “Selene” coffee machine; a technological revolution, it’s the world’s first continuous brewing coffee machine.

1959

The launch of “Eureka,” the machine with innovative design and technology. It features an oil pump, two 5-liter boilers, and a heat exchanger.

1969

Following a management buy-out, the company changes ownership and from “Simonelli” becomes “Nuova Simonelli.”

Nuova Simonelli is therefore a brand that is both tied to tradition – thus recalling the founder’s name (Simonelli) – and projected towards the future (Nuova).

1973

The bar moves into homes. “Elli” is the first Nuova Simonelli coffee machine designed for families and small communities. It features an internal pump, heat exchanger, steam wand, and copper boiler. A semi-professional machine with home furnishing design. Much more than a simple small appliance.

1975

Introduction of “ISX”, the first coffee machine with electronic components. The machine was available in electronic and semi-automatic versions with volumetric dosing.

1982

The birth of “Mia”, the espresso coffee machine for the family. Unique for its modern, compact, and very original design. Even with its very small dimensions, it features a complete system of mechanical parts derived from professional machines.

1984

The arrival of the first super-automatic machine under the Nuova Simonelli brand. It’s called “Logica” and is presented as highly innovative: just press a button and the machine does the rest. The ease of use of this new machine opens doors to new international markets.

1985

The launch of “Program,” the first traditional coffee machine equipped with a real onboard computer. The semi-automatic version simplifies basic operations while maintaining high quality. The volumetric version uses electronics to program functions, such as automatic on/off, patented electronic grind control, and connection to a computer and cash register.

1990

Nuova Simonelli presents “Yacht Club”, the only professional espresso machine of its kind. The casing, with a tempered glass porthole, is made of natural olive wood, elm, or olive ash. Its image and name create an immediate connection with the sea, port bars, sailing clubs, seaside resorts, and waterfront restaurants and hotels.

1993

Nuova Simonelli established its presence in foreign markets, with the USA division being founded in Ferndale, Washington state.

Electronics applied to coffee machines takes a big step forward with the “Master” model. The Master range consists of Master Coffee, Master Coffee Plus, and the Master Cup cup warmer module. Master Coffee is a super-automatic machine with a quantity-controlled doser that assists the barista. It grinds, tamps, and brews coffee and ejects used grounds.

1999

The launch of “Oscar,” the semi-professional coffee machine with high-level technical features. It’s equipped with a thermocompensated group, a semi-professional portafilter, and a thermosiphon water heating system.

2001

Nuova Simonelli presents “Jazz”, a compact machine that’s easy to use and always clean.

The launch of “Caffetteria Italiana”. Its extraordinary features include a double grinder-doser (with customizable flavor by mixing two types of coffee), double boiler, variable-setting brewing group, programmable tamping pressure, remote internet connection for adjustment and technical assistance.

2003

At the Host fair in Milan, Nuova Simonelli presents two absolute novelties to the market: “Aurelia” and “Microbar”. Microbar was included among the 100 best examples of Italian design, recognized and selected for the prestigious Compasso d’Oro award.

2004

“Aurelia” is Nuova Simonelli’s flagship machine. It takes its name from a famous Roman road to emphasize its durability over time. It has many features that make it unique and a technological benchmark among traditional espresso machines: the softness of the portafilter closure, the distance between groups, the materials used for controls, adjustable display brightness, ease of cleaning, the push&pull system, and wide visibility of the work surface.

2005

The launch of “Appia” – the semi-automatic and volumetric coffee machine. It has much in common with the Aurelia machine: autosteam – to program the milk heating temperature – and the SIS system – with the “soft” double pre-infusion system that wets the coffee panel for a creamier espresso. Appia is an essential machine, but with exceptional performance features.

2008

“Aurelia” is selected as the official coffee machine for the World Barista Championship 2008-2011.

2012

“Aurelia II” with its innovative T3 technology is confirmed as the official machine for the World Barista Championship 2012-2014.

2013

For the Host fair in Milan, Nuova Simonelli presents “Mythos One,” the compact on-demand grinder that guarantees consistent doses and, most importantly, better flavor in espresso.

2017

Nuova Simonelli introduces the new “Aurelia Wave” to the market, representing a wave of innovation in the growth of the coffee industry. Aurelia Wave offers new technologies such as Smart Water Technology, eco-sustainability, digital interface, ergonomics, Pulse Jet technology, T3 technology, and Pulse-Purge technology.

“Prontobar Touch” is presented at the Host fair 2017 to be acclaimed as the super-automatic machine with the most advanced technology, with an elegant and compact style emphasized by its linear design.

2019

Created to meet the needs of modern cafés, Appia Life inherits the reliability of Appia and evolves with a focus on energy efficiency and ease of use.
A machine that has embraced the daily challenges of thousands of baristas worldwide, with a timeless design and technology attentive to sustainability.

2023

Aurelia evolves to continue setting the standard.
NEW Aurelia represents the perfect union of tradition and future, offering even higher performance and details designed to enhance every extraction experience.
An “icon that looks forward while remaining faithful to the quality and” innovation that have always defined Nuova Simonelli.
